FAQ: leader films for companies

01

Executive visibility is now part of corporate reputation

Customers, investors, candidates and partners often trust people before they trust organisations. A leadership team that is visible, credible and consistent lends that trust to the company. When leaders stay anonymous, the company's story is told only by its logo, its press releases and whatever people find online.

That is why executive branding has moved from a personal matter to a board-level topic. It touches hiring, sales, investor relations, M&A, succession and transformation. And it carries real risks if it is improvised: inconsistent messages, confidential details, content that does not sound like the person. Leader films solve the visibility problem; good governance solves the risks.

02

People buy from, invest in and join people

In complex B2B sales, in fundraising and in senior hiring, the decision often comes down to whether the other side trusts the person in front of them. A leader whose story is already known starts each of those conversations further along: the counterpart has seen how they think, what they value and what they have delivered.

For the company, it is also a resilience topic. In a transformation, a crisis or a change of control, people look at leaders before they read strategy documents. A leadership team that is already known and trusted has more room to act. And for the leaders themselves, a company that invests in their visibility sends a strong signal of recognition, which matters for retention at the very top.

03

Six places where a leader film pays back
  • Employer brand and senior hiring. Senior candidates want to know who they will report to and what the culture really is. A film of the hiring manager answers both better than any careers page.
  • Sales and key accounts. Client-facing partners and country heads open doors faster when counterparts already know their story and expertise.
  • Investor relations. A human narrative of the leadership team supports fundraising rounds, capital markets days and conversations with new shareholders.
  • M&A and integration. After a deal, merged teams meet their new leaders through a screen long before the first town hall. A film makes that first impression deliberate.
  • Succession. Boards get to know the next generation of leaders beyond a slide in a talent review, especially when films are combined with 360° data.
  • Transformation. Change is easier to accept when people understand who is leading it, and why they believe in it.

04

Start where trust has the highest value

Not every leader needs a film at the same time. Start with the roles where trust translates most directly into value, and where the absence of a clear story costs the most.

  • The CEO and executive committee, who carry the company's narrative with investors, media and employees.
  • Client-facing partners and country heads, who win and keep the business.
  • Newly appointed executives, who need to earn trust quickly with teams that do not know them.
  • High-potential successors, whom the board needs to see more clearly before making a decision.

05

Governance: authenticity, privacy and ownership

Authenticity first. A film that sounds scripted by the communications department loses the trust it was meant to create. The story should be the leader's own, built from interviews with them, with communications ensuring consistency rather than writing the words.

Clear boundaries. Agree upfront with communications and legal on what cannot be said: confidential figures, undisclosed deals, anything that could conflict with market rules or client agreements.

Privacy by design. Host films privately by default, publish trailers rather than full films on social media, and decide who can share what.

Ownership and exit. Decide before production who owns the footage and what happens if the leader leaves. A clear legal framework protects both the person and the company.

06

What to track, and what not to

Public view counts are the wrong metric. Executive films are made for a small, precise audience. Measure what they change in that audience's behaviour:

  • Response rates to leaders' outreach and introductions, before and after.
  • Inbound requests: senior candidates, partners, speaking and media invitations.
  • Quality and speed of senior hiring, and acceptance rates of offers.
  • Completion rates of films among the intended audience, such as clients, candidates or investors.

07

A 90-day pilot

Days 1 to 30: select and frame. Choose five to ten leaders, define the main use for each (introductions, investors, hiring, onboarding) and agree on governance with communications and legal.

Days 30 to 60: story and production. Interviews, scripts and shooting, with the matching format for each leader: elevator pitch, five-minute flagship film with a personal page, or interview and masterclass for thought leadership.

Days 60 to 90: deploy and measure. Pages go live in signatures and introductions, and you track the indicators above. Add Data 360° where evidence matters most, such as succession. 1Signature® runs cohorts with tailored pricing: talk to us to build the right programme.

Frequently asked questions

Is this different from a corporate video? Yes. A corporate video speaks for the brand. A leader film tells a person's story, which is what builds personal trust.

What if the leader leaves the company? Usage rights are agreed upfront, so both sides know what can be reused and by whom.

Do leaders have to be comfortable on camera? No. Interviews are conversations, not performances, and the crew is used to working with leaders who have never been filmed before.
